Lost work
Daantjie spoke and preached frequently in public,
always working from written notes, and of course presented lectures. At present all unpublished talks, lectures
and sermons are lost. We would be grateful for scans of any which turn up.

Thank you!
We have identified and found much of this work thanks to a detailed biography from Prof. J J Degenaar, which has been an invaluable guide. In identifying student work we also thank Andrew Nash’s paper ‘How Kierkegaard came to Stellenbosch’. Some of the original presentation details provided here are thanks to Ian Bunting, who edited the work published posthumously in Philosophical Papers and in The Ethics of Illegal Action.

ReplyDeletei don't have a copy of his day of the covenant sermon - but i remember daantjie talking about it - when he had finished giving his sermon, the organisers didn't thank him - they simply got up and went to the refreshment area without inviting him to join them - so he got into his car and went home - they didn't like his telling them that god chooses people to serve those whom he hasn't chosen - also that the bible tells us all god's chosen people have to expect to suffer - like being defeated by the assyrians and the babylonians - and, in the case of jesus, being chosen to be crucified - so, being chosen and bound into a covenant, could lead to having to suffer so that those who aren't god's people could have an opportunity to be blessed - as we say these days - having a covenant relationship with god is not a good look! - james moulder
ps - i hope this paper turns up - i'm sure there is much more to it than i was told and that i remember
