As a
lecturer in History at Rhodes from 1959 to 1962, I remember Daantjie well and
with awe. I don't have any particular anecdotes to record, but simply a
grateful memory of a warm, thoughtful, modest and deeply learned human being
whose quiet example as a brave, solitary Christian helped me (without his
knowing it) in the formation of my vocation in exceedingly difficult times.
